Dishwasher Troubleshooting Tips
If your dishwasher has stopped working, here are a few troubleshooting tips you should try before making a call for service.
If your dishwasher sounds like it’s running, but doesn’t fill, either something is wrong with the water supply system or it’s draining water as it’s filling. Make sure the water is turned on.
If your machine is still not filling, turn off the power to the dishwasher. Lift out the float mechanism. This usually looks like a plastic dome or cylinder mounted inside the base of the dishwasher’s tub. Clean around the float tube and rinse off the float. Then replace the float making sure it moves up and down freely.
If your dishwasher doesn’t stop filling, you might have a faulty float switch and the timer is either stuck on fill or the water inlet valve is stuck open. You can test the float switch using a multimeter after unplugging the dishwasher.
Is your dishwasher not draining? Check to make sure there is no king or clog in the drain line. Also, if your garbage disposer was recently replaced, be sure the knockout plug for the dishwasher was removed when the connection was made.
Dishwasher leaking? First, cut back on the amount of detergent you use to see if that makes a difference. Also, ensure that dishes are properly loaded and are not causing the door gasket to not seal properly. Additionally, you can make sure the dishwasher is sitting level so that it can properly drain.
